Whatever deceives men seems to produce a magical enchantment
So said Plato…
"Whatever deceives men seems to produce a magical enchantment."
What did he mean? What was he inferring?
Was he suggesting things that capture our imagination might be doing so out of an effect of them being lies and false beliefs?
Does that mean the things I am attracted by (enchanted by), for entertainment, for distraction from the serious and mundane, could be connected to my own self-deceipt?
Is that something I want to happen? Sure getting caught up in the moment can be wonderful.
But, can I be taken advantage of by the powers that be. By advertisers. By politicians. By my own blind sighted stupidity and weakness?
And not to be so very pessimistic, can I use this idea to my advantage… Can I help gain control of my mind by guiding the types of deceipt that filter through to me, and use the magical enchantment they bring for my ultimate benefit???
"Whatever deceives men seems to produce a magical enchantment." - Plato.
Through clarity, mindfulness, and willingness, I can choose my own self deceptions, block the disempowering deceptions from the media and government, and lift myself into a mature, powerful, transcendent state of mind.
Is my mind so plastic that I can meld it to my will? Or alas, is it so plastic that my mind is being bent without my knowing by others in power whilst they enchant me with lies and deceipt.
I wonder… I do. I wonder about who has control of my mind at the deepest of levels.
Could this apply equally to stories of Atlantis, as it does religious business ethics?
Alas, I am overwhelmed to tell the difference between reality and hocus pocus.
Can I gain control of my mind?

Hello Nathan
I'm learning that visiting your wonderful site can't be used as a quick flyby to take a quick break from my work! LOL! The content here is both solid and thought provoking.
I believe that this particular article articulates what man has been pondering since the days of Aristotle, Plato, etc!
My mind is reeling! Great stuff, man!
